Apollo Bay first appeared on a map as a whaling station – as dark and brutal a beginning as can be imagined. In its later incarnation as a fishing village it mourned many souls lost at sea. In a church perched overlooking the mercurial ocean, The Quietus is a musical meditation on the awesome power of the sea and the life and death it brings.
Works by Percy Grainger, Elgar, Vaughan Williams and more contemporary musicians are interpreted by mezzo soprano Caroline Vercoe and oboist Jasper Ly in an eerie and disturbing concert of dark themes. A very live performance presented by Lyric Opera.
