It has been ten years since Melbourne singer songwriter Laura Jean announced herself as a powerful new voice in Australian music, with her lush, pastoral debut album Our Swan Song. In that time Laura has become iconic, revered for the striking beauty of her music and the strength of her piercing, intimate lyrics. Her albums have been shortlisted for the Australian Music Prize, and nominated for multiple Age Music Victoria Awards. She has recorded with Paul Kelly and The Drones, appearing as a vocalist on their respective latest albums. She has toured with the likes of Adalita, Seeker Lover Keeper, Jenny Hval and Marlon Williams, and performed at the National Gallery Of Victoria, Dark Mofo and Sydney Town Hall.
Laura signed with Chapter Music to release rock-based third album A fool who’ll in 2012, called “an uncompromising triumph” by Rolling Stone. Then in 2014, Laura recorded with UK producer John Parish (PJ Harvey, Sonic Youth, Goldfrapp), releasing self-titled album Laura Jean later that year. The album was a return to the intimate folk settings of her earlier work, and features backing vocals throughout by Jenny Hval. It was shortlisted for The Australian Music Prize and nominated for best album at The Age Music Victoria Awards.
