“A new artist you need to know” – Rolling Stone USA
Jess Cornelius is the songwriter, singer and instrumentalist behind Teeth & Tongue. Her 2016 album ‘Give Up On Your Health’ was released in September 2016 through Dot Dash/Remote Control in Australia and Dot Dash/Captured Tracks in North America.
The album was nominated for a J Award and the Australian Music Prize, named Album of the Week on 3RRR and Feature Album on Double J, and featured in Rolling Stone US, The Fader and Lena Dunham’s Lenny magazine.
Originally a solo project, Teeth & Tongue has continued to alternate between solo and band formats. Her 2014 album ‘Grids’ was nominated for three The Age Music Victoria awards and received critical acclaim across Australia. She has toured with Courtney Barnett and Vance Joy and performed as a musical guest on several episodes of SBS Television’s ‘Rockwiz’ series. She has also supported J Mascis, Sons & Daughters, EMA, Juana Molina, The Dodos, The Mountain Goats, the Drones and Laura Marling.
In 2015 Jess was invited to be a resident at Nes Artist Residency in North Iceland, where she worked on material for ‘Give Up On your Health.’
She is now focusing on a return to solo work and a stripped-back, minimalist approach to recording and performing. A new EP is planned for release in 2017.
Jess Cornelius will perform at The Mech: Fire on Saturday 12th August, 2017.
